I would appreciate some advice on the following problem.
I updated my NVIDIA driver. The NVIDIA control panel automatically found and allowed me to download an .exe file. I followed the instructions, i.e. removed the installed NVIDIA drivers using Control Panel>Add remove programmes, turned off Norton Internet Security and then ran the .exe file. The drivers seemed to have installed ok. However, on rebooting the computer I now find that it finds three new pieces of hardware and tries to install the drivers for these. But it fails to find the drivers either on the machine or on the web (the Windows facility for this). On further investigation in the Device Manager, there is a folder called 'Other devices' with three bits of hardware listed: SM Bus Controller, Other PCI Bridge Device, and PCI Memory Controller. Each of these has a large yellow question mark against them. Each time I boot up now, the machine finds these 'new' bits of hardware and asks if I want to install the drivers. Clearly they were there before, with the correct drivers. I have tried system restore but this does not take it back to a point where the correct drivers are installed so there are still the yellow question marks against these devices. a) what has happened? and b) how do I install the drivers for these devices? Many thanks |

It sounds as though you need to install the chipset drivers for your motherboard. They might have been un-installed along with everything else nVidia.
They'll be in C:\DRIVERS somewhere but there will probably be a newer version available for download. If you have an ASUS motherboard, you'll find what you want here.
