Default A8N-SLi Deluxe Chipset Fan

Hello all,
My second A8N-SLi Deluxe Chipset fan has died, yet again. Contacted ASUS and they sound to contact you guys to get another replacement for it. Is annoying since I can't get a Zalman heatsink for it as it will BURN the nf4 chipset.
Can you please send me another chipset fan please?
Cheers

Simon

Hi simonwong1989,

Not every A8N owner needs the fan replaced so to have one that needs a second is unusual. I'd suggest checking the internal case temperature and ensure that there are no un-necessary holes into the case allow dust entry.

A fan is of course on it's way to you.

What was that about a Zalman burning the chip? I wouldn't have thought a HSF that actually made contact with the chip would do that, especially as the fans recommended by Asus are a simple small affair.

I have heard many people saying the Zalman Northbridge Cooler didn't do the job sufficiently. It has caused the temperatures of the chipset to go around and over 80 degrees celsius. Therefore, caused the chips to burn and therefore, a dead motherboard.
I didn't want to take such as risk of getting a HSF for it since I have heard that so I want to say with the fan even though it is a bit loud, but at least it DOES cool the chipset.
Do you have any recommendations for a replacement HSF for the A8N-SLi Deluxe Chipset fan?

Cheers

Hi simonwong1989,

I can't recommend any myself sorry.

When you see the fan and hold it in your hand you'll wonder why any other fan wouldn't be able to do as good a job if not better, which is why I was surprised to read what you posted by a Zalman fan.

I think the main reason is due to the fact that the Zalman design is fanless, therefore causes the heat is disapate somewhere else. Also, the HS is made so that the fan for the GPU will also be able to cool it, in my case, it can't as the fan is on the opposite side, and due to the size of the actualy board, heat rises and to the board, not towards the fans, which is why i think it causes so many problems with other people with the same motherboard.

Hi Simon.

I've just replaced the chipset fan on my A8N-E with the Zalman NB47J passive cooler. My PC is showing a system uptime of 11hrs 41mins and the mobo temp is currently 43 degrees (measured with Asus Probe II). Thats almost the same as with the little Asus fan - and its a darn sight quieter. You just need to ensure adequate airflow to carry the hot air away. If you have at least one working case fan you should be fine. In operation, the little blue Zalman is quite warm to the touch, but by no means at "melting" temperatures - that means its doing its job and carrying the heat away from the chip.

Hope that helps.

Hi James Burbidge,

Are you still at the same address? If it's changed could you email me the new address?

Please bear in mind that to replace the fan you will need access to the underside of the motherboard which in turn will need you to remove it.

Hi Davey

Thanks for you quick reply. And I understand that I will have to take out the motherboard, slip the plastic retaining bolts, clean the chip set and reapply some thermal compound when replacing the fan.

I have sent you an email with the address to your email

at the same on investigating the screaching noise coming form the case I discovered that the graphics card fan is running very slowly and on trying to spin it there is a graunching noise. The graphics card is an ASUS EN6600TD/128 that came with my computer when I got from Mesh.

Where can I get a replacement fan as it is almost impossible to get anyone on the Asus customer support team to tell me how to get a fan.

thanks for your help in advance

best regards and a prosperous New Year

James

I recommend you remove your address from this public forum and send it to Davey in a Private Message (click his name above his posts to see the PM option).

Is your graphics card fan clogged up with dust? A simple fix may be to get some compressed air to dislodge it.

If both fans have broken it might suggest that your computer is in a particularly dusty location. There aren't any smokers in your house are there? Lungs and arteries are the only things they clog up
