Question p5b tmx/s elite D925, where to run to ? E6600

I have a mesh pc. Mobo p5b tmx/s with a D925, 3Ghz, 4MB Cache, 800Mhz) 2GB DDR2
I've just SP1'd the Vista and installed a new Asus NVidia EN8800 GTS
I now want to upgrade the processor to a E6600 Duo(not bought yet but nearly there )

Will the Mobo support the processor.

I have an older XP Mesh which also has an Asus board which I have flashed bios etc and upgrded the processor etc.

This P5B TMX/S does not seem to be well documented and I don't want to assume its a P5B clone.

In real terms the processor D925 is maxed out on games and the system is lagging when the GTS is racked up.

Hi joepublic,

The specification for the P5B-TMX states that it supports Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Duo as well as some older pentium CPUs too.

The P5B-TMX (a sub set of the P5B boards) is an OEM board so the information you will find is limited unfortunately.

Wink

What are the chances of success of plugging in an E6600 and it working or anyother faster chip.

I check ASUS P5B before raising the query but it notes BIOS levels and they are confusing at best for the P5B. If this is a OEM specific will it take P5B BIOS upgrades.

Is it a case or try and see, or, BIOS won't upgrade. Trying to narrow down the chance of failure and if possible improve chances of success

Hi joepublic,

It's possible for one P5B variation to accept and work with another's BIOS but it's hit and miss affair as to which will work and which won't, so we will have to say no it won't work to be safe.

As for the CPU, the same situation applies unfortunately, I would say high chance it will work fine, but without trying it I cannot guarantee it.
