I don't know whether this is just an issue with the Asus card supplied by Mesh but the 8800GTX does seem to have an issue with overheating. See my thread 'Computer Hangs' under 'Customer Care and Technical Support'.
One card has been replaced by Mesh and the second also froze while playing Command & Conquer. Having checked the nVidia website I have downloaded the NV Monitor programme. Since then I have been switching to 'Direct Fan Control' using nVidia Control Panel to force the fan to a higher speed and have not had any further problems, yet. Although I have so far avoided Command & Conquer. The fan did not appear to be increasing in speed on the auto setting, or if it was it was not keeping the temperature down. I have seen maximum temperatures of just the high seventies but this card does seem to run hot while playing games and does seem to be very sensitive to even slightly higher temperatures. Are the 9xxx series nVidia cards better? |

Try a tool called Evga Precision , Im sure it will work on most Nvidia cards and not just Evga's ones and your find it on the Evga Site under downloads
I have set my fans at 80% , and now they are both running around the 65c mark , and around 75 to 80c when playing games But remember to check the box that says " apply at windows start up " this way you won't need to keep changing it on every boot

Hi, there is a program called rivatuner that a lot of people claim is better for controlling fans on (and indeed any aspect of) nvidia cards than nvidia control panel. I know that with my geforce 7 series cards i could not control the fan speed from the nvidia control panel, and the fans never seemed to speed up or slow down no matter how hot (up to 90 degrees) the cards would get. With riva tuner I could change fan speed by a large amount, and it has settings to apply on startup. I never had problems with crashing and didn't like the extra noise though so I never saved the settings, but it seems to work and there is a lot of information on the internet about it.
