After a freeze up while operating the PC i tried to restart but got the following messages in sequence:
1: Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog: failure: Security options. when i rebooted i got the following 2: PRI Master Hard disk: SMART status bad, backup abd replace: press f1 to resume. 3: A disk read error occurred: press c-a-d to restart. eventually i got in by using the mesh recovery disk more by luck than design. i only used the repair function as i did not want to wipe my files. one problem had was that it asked to load the appropriate drivers but i had not a clue which ones were needed. i thought to use system restore but the only option i got was for a point 3 days before. i would have thought a lot more restore points would have been available as obviously whatever was causing the probelm must have happened before that period as the change made no difference. when i got in again the same problem repeated. anyone any clues? |

Personally, If I were you, I would try and back-up the files I needed, including C:/Drivers if you haven't already and have a new disk fitted.

I am getting the following on boot up
'IDE channel 5 Master HD SMART. status bad. Warning: Immediate backup of your data & replace hard disk. A failure may be imminent'. My machine is 18 months old. I have just contacted MESH and await response. A piece of advise for anyone having similar problems. Do not be fobbed off with machine out of warranty. The Sale of Goods Act protects consumers - it is reasonable to expect machine components to last for more than 18 months. MESH has a duty of care to their customers. I for one, if I get messed around, with quickly report MESH to Trading Standards and also, write to every magazine that carries MESH adverts or recommends them to advise them of MESH's failings. So MESH needs to replace the hard disk with good faith or lose sales through bad publicity. Mike |

Hi wmike,
What is reasonable or not is subjective, and cannot immediately assumed to be whatever you yourself believe to be correct. If you feel aggrieved by any part of the warrenty or lack thereof I would suggest you contact our Customer Services department to discuss the matter further. Unfortunately whilst I can recommend that you consider replacing the hard drive in your system I cannot offer to do so under the warranty, sorry. Davey

Well - no surprises there then.
So 18 months and a £1000 purchase is needing a new hard disk. Frankly, this is not on. Your response is entirely expected. No matter - I will take the following action: 1. Write to Trading Standards with my complaint. Your equipment is not fit for purpose under the Trade Descriptions Act - 18 months falls woefully short of what is reasonable to expect the life of expensive computer equipment to be. 2. Write to all publications that carry your adverts or recommend your machines - I will actively encourage readers to steer clear of Mesh. 3. My son is a technology journalist- he will write about this and his readership can form their own view of the risk of purchasing a Mesh computer. That should probably lose you some potential customers. Well deserved (all for the price of a hard disk and some customer service). M A Wright |

Hi wmike,
If you require further support please do let me know but I request that you consider two points; 1, When posting about your own new problem, please create your own thread. 2, Keep the toys in the pram. "I'm gonna do this, and this, and this if you don't help" doesn't help either party. Help is provided regardless of such threats and having to read through them can be rather distracting. Davey
