Default Purchase advice request monitor/TV

I have been very pleased with previous Mesh purchases for my son and would like to undertake one for my other son.

Could you advise me if this is a viable proposition:

What I want to do is to buy my son a Flat screen TV about 20/22" that he could have at Christmas, then when his birthday arrives a few months later buy a PC base unit to connect to said TV/monitor. This would save me buying two separate TV and Computer systems.

This would mean purchasing the monitor/TV first so he could watch TV and then the base unit at a later date.

I am happy to buy an additional tv digibox if the monitor/TV does not have a tuner.

Could you advise if this is a viable proposition and if so could you provide some suggestions along with costs.

Many thanks

Ian D McIlquham

Hi,

Your request is perfectly feasible and many computer users are doing just what you are planning.

I would recommend buying a LCD TV/Monitor as it will provide a higher resolution for computer use than a standard TV although the cost is a bit higher. The following link provides details of a good 20" Samsung T200HD 20" LCD TV/Monitor Freeview 1680x1050 300cd/m2 1000:1 5ms DVI/HDMI Rose Black 3 Years Onsite Warranty - Ebuyer. This TV as well as having a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 (the same as 20" dedicated computer monitors) also has a range of connections including DVI (For connecting to the computer) and HDMI (for true high definition connection to blue ray players, upscaling DVD players, HD Satellite, playsation 3 etc). It also has Freeview built in allowing digital viewing through a standard aerial.

When you come to buy the computer it is a simple task of connecting the computer to the TV/Monitor using a normal DVI to DVI cable available from Mesh at the time of your order.

I'm sure I read that you can get a DVI to HDMI connection cable if you wanted to ?
Not sure if this would make a difference or not ( not really read up on it ) but if it did , games would look cool in HD !

The game needs to be HD as well as the graphics card/monitor supporting HD.

It is unlikely these days to buy any pc game that isn't hd.
