Uninstal applications under Vista

On endeavouring to un-install an application programme from my computer with Vista installed, a screen message informs me that I do not have the necessary permissions. This is despite the fact that, as a User, I am categorized as an Administrator whisch I understand gives me all rights and permissions in respect of making changes.
Is it possible that this is attributable to the User Account Control configuration? Whatever the cause I would apreciate advice as to how to remedy
