Exclamation No sound from speakers after reinstalling Vista

I had to format the computer. After reinstalling Vista, there was no sound coming from the speakers. It appears to be a very common problem, but without a uniform solution.

I've read a lot of claimed solutions and explanations here and elsewhere, but nothing's changed as a result of trying them.

My guess, which may be completely wrong, is that sound drivers were preinstalled on the computer and that formatting got rid of them. If that is likely, which drivers are needed to get the sound back. If that's not the reason for the lack of sound, any ideas what is ?

hi Robert,

did you back up the drivers folder from C: Drivers ? as this will have all the drivers & software you need to get everything working again

Unfortunately not bj. The software problems were so bad that I could barely even reinstall Vista.

Judging from what you've written elsewhere about Mesh drivers, it seems that the problem must be due to a lack of sound drivers.

yes, all your needing to do is install the drivers, but going on what your saying, you may not have any drivers installed, mother board, graphics card etc.

make sure you have your order number put into your profile (user cp) and davie will probably put a link up to the MB makers site (probably Asus) and you should get all the drivers from there.

you have probably lost the dvd playback software and MS works

I've just checked the order form. It is an ASUS mainboard just as you suggested.

I have found the ASUS download page :

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

What do you click on to get the drivers ?

You select your motherboard from the drop down boxes on the right, or use the "Navigation Wizard" to identify them for you.

cd,

There are three drop down menus :

The first one is "select product". So I chose "Motherboard" as you suggested.

The second drop menu - "select series" has to be filled in. Most of the options are "Socket" followed by a number, such as "Socket 370". However, I see nothing on the MESH invoice stating what the series is or anything like "Socket 370".

That therefore leaves over 20 options for the series, without providing any idea as to which to choose.
