A 'blue screen' is a term for a system crash - blue screen of death or BSOD. The PC gives cryptic details of what went wrong on a blue background. Vista is pretty stable but doesn't like older hardware and software, hence its reputation. With new equipment and applications I think it's more stable than XP.
Vista is OK. It runs a lot of programs more slowly than XP which isn't really a problem with new PCs unless you play a lot of games. Gamers want as much performance as possible and so moan about Vista. It's probably more secure than XP but I hate WGA and the hand-holding attitude of Vista. Graphically, it is very nice. Vista is the way to go as XP will be retired eventually and has no DX10 graphics support. It's a good OS and you can rest assured you have made a good choice. You could always get XP and use dual booting to allow you a choice but I wouldn't bother to be honest. For those, like me, living in the past, I think MESH still offer XP with new systems if you phone them. I have both, but need XP to use some old hardware.

Public access to the latest beta build of Vista Service Pack 1 RC Refresh is available now. Users can install the beta via Windows Update, but Microsoft is providing a list of procedures users should follow to avoid problems.
Vista SP1 is slated for release before the end of March as Microsoft hopes to align SP1's availability with Windows Server 2008, which Microsoft hopes to ship on or before its Feb. 27, 2008 launch event in Los Angeles. Vista SP1 will include a number of bug fixes and performance enhancements but no new features. Hope this answers a few questions.

My first experience with vista was very problematic. my take: if you are a gamer and you use 3d design softwares, just use xp for now.

DON'T under ANY circumstances get VISTA and ESPECIALLY not the Ultimate Edition. I bought my MESH PC last June and have had nothing but nightmares with VISTA. It fights every single thing one tries to to do or install and constantly tells you that you "lack authorisiastion" to do the silliest little things. The ONLY reason that I have not reformatted and returned to XP is that VISTA has prevented my CD burning sw from working so I can't back up personal data yet and I have misplaced my install disk. Now even windows explorer only works in safe mode and because no sane techie with half a brain will touch it, tech support is really hard to get and MS themselves want £40 a time to speak to their own customers. (They obviously don't need the money - this is just a way to avoid offering any REAL tech support!) I LOATHE VISTA. It is running half as fast as XP used to run on my old PC which had half the spec and IMO is a repeat of Microsoft's fiasco with the infamous Windows Millennium. VISTA has already lost MS more customers than have been dumb enough to buy it and started a massive global movement to KEEP XP. I t has ONLY three advantages - slightly better graphics and animations, DX10 for advanced gamers and the animated desktop. (Dreamscapes) However the latter worked only for the first 6 weeks and has never worked since. I also paid the full price for Microsoft's Windows Live One Care and THAT has proved useless too. If I could exchange it for XP Pro with MESH I would INSTANTLY. XP runs faster, is simpler, allows installation of 3rd party software and doesn't annoy you 24/7. So go for XP Pro! Or Linux or Apple MAc but NOT VISTA. In case you think I am a hysterical noobie who doesn't know how to use his PC - I am 62, have been computing since 1978, on the internet since it began, used to work for ZIFF Davis PC magazine publishers as a reviewer and product tester, am on my 8th personal PC, am a flight sim pilot and online gamer, have been an IT manager and also done professional tech support - THAT's why I cose a MESH PC! I am also a classic "early adopter" who (normally) loves the latest systems and sw - but VISTA simply SUCKS. Period. Sorry MS. ![]()

Wow Big quote lol Well there will always be Vista haters I guess , and I was one from the start back when I got my Mesh PC well over a year ago , but the last few months I would have to say Vista is a lot better than XP .... faster , safer and all round better But it did take a while and turning off UAC ( User Account Control ) was the best thing I ever did , so maybe that's what you need to do , you say your no noobie so having this running is a complete waste of resource's , and all the things it does you could easily do yourself I loved XP and I still use it from time to time ( Dual Boot ) but Vista is on my PC to stay , and I would never go back to XP on a daily basis
