Default S/PDIF cable for Nvidia 9600gt

Hi,
I bought my computer from MESH near the end of last year. Now I am trying to connect my telly to my computer via HDMI, using a DVI->HDMI cable. I get graphics up fine on the screen, but I get no sound. SO I did a bit of reading and realised I need a S/PDIF cable going from my motherboard to the gaphics card so I can play the sound through that. However, I can't find this cable anywhere. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated.

A S/PDIF cable will allow you to transfer digital sound (as long as your soundcard/onboard sound supports it) or you can use a normal RCA sound cable from the sound card to the tv. You can get either cable from most online computer component etailers such as Scan or Ebuyer.

Why are you looking for one from the graphics card? The graphics card only produces pictures(graphics) not sound. What you need is a cable that leads from the sound card to your tv, you then connect the HDMI cable from the graphics card to the tv for the picture and the sound cable from the sound card to the tv for sound.

DJT298,
I think Nippon is right, asumming he's got the ASUS EN9600GT/HTDI/512M.

Note: To enable HDMI audio out function, a motherboard with internal S/PDIF header and the correct connection of S/PDIF cable with graphics card and motherboard are needed.
I've no idea what the cable is or what it looks like. The retail card comes with a S/PDIF cable so it might be worth contacting ASUS.

I was looking at doing the same with my 8800GT, so that only one cable needed to be run, but unfortunatley it's not possible with my setup.

Sorry, my bad. I didn't realize that the 9600GT had the ability to output sound as well. The cable you need therefore is this one here

cheers guys,
managed to find one on ebay in the end. was looking at the one on ebuyer as you suggested, but was dubious about the connector shape compatibility on the graphics card, so didn't bother with it in the end.
thanks

Hi Nippon109,

Why are you still trying to connect the audio to the graphics card?

HDMI supports both video and audio transport provided audio is supplied via a compatible motherboard and the relevant cable to the video card. The video card won't process the audio, just add it to the outbound signal as far as I am aware.

A simple solution would be to connect up an output from the Sound Card to your TV/Sound System. Or you could use a type of HDMI cable that splits to a separate audio jack mid cable. This cable is designed for use on a system without the internal connection or a video card that has no pass-thru.
