Default upgrade or wait for win 7 ?

First of i'm a gamer and im un sure if want to wait a few months for windows 7 which i won't mind waiting. The main reason why i am looking to upgrade is because since i've bought my new monitor and playing at high res my computer is unable to hold good fps on all the games at that resolution.

I currently have a 939 ping amd x2 4200+ 2.2 ghz
8800GT BFG OC2 512 MB
2 GB DDR
asus a8n-sli deluxe
550watt PSU
24 " monitor widescreen

im sure my cpu is bottleknecking my GPU so i suppose there would be no reason to upgrade my GPU to get better performance. If i need to upgrade the cpu im looking at upgrading my whole computer. Another thing would SLI give me any performance and would i be able to do it on the 550w PSU?

thank you

Hi Ecks,

Unfortunately I think this is a question only you are going to be able to answer.

I have been trialling 7 since it's beta release in a dual boot with Vista. Overall I find it to be a very good operating system but, I still tend to use Vista mainly. Admittedly, this is mainly because that is the installation that has the majority of my personal files and settings but also because in normal everyday use I don't find much difference between the two os.

If I was looking to upgrade I would be more interested in the benefits I would get from a change of hardware rather than the os and in this respect you would definately be best of changing now.

Ecks

This issue will start to grow as we get closer to a release date.

Trouble with PCs is theres always somthing else to wait for Quad CPUs, DDR3, Win7.

Stats do show a dip in sales before each of the last Windows releases.

Can you put up with the current system until Christmas or even the new year?

I have also been trialling win7 and the beta seems both stable and an improvement on vista. I believe the release candidate is now available to anyone who wants it, not just to the beta testers, and is good until Summer 2010. So try it yourself and make your own mind up!
