Default A Different Boot Problem

I'm beginning to have major issues with this machine that I've only had for a few days - it can sometimes take three or four attempts to boot.

I often switch on the machine and nothing happens - the power comes on but the the cpu doesn't seem to start. After several attempts, it will start and I hear the familiar noise of the cpu fan starting up - when I hear that I know the system will start up properly and it does. Once up and running everything works fine.

Any suggestions?

(I've also sent this to support)

Hi zab,
Please make sure you enter your Mesh order/serial number into your forum profile so Davey W can look up your account details.

Does your computer make any POST beeps, either when booting correctly or when booting fails?

hi chickendippers

the profile has the correct info in; not noticed any beeps on startup - I don't think it gets far enough. All I get is the light on the front panel and I hear the fans start and that's all - nothing else kicks in. When it does start it just launches Vista as normal, no error messages.

This one has me puzzled.

Just to add that at the request of support I've reseated the graphics card an RAM; also tried without the graphics card by plugging the monitor staright into the mobo. Niether worked.

Still takes three or four attempts to startup. My wife is now suggesting I should have gone to a well known computer shop......

Can you provide some more information about the specs of your computer as only Mesh employees are able to view this in your profile?

I am especially interested in which motherboard you have fitted as it sounds from your description you have onboard graphics.

The mobo is an Asus M2N68-VM but the build came with a Radeon hd 4350 graphics card.

Unfortunately I think you are going to need to return the base unit to Mesh for testing. It could be either a faulty switch on the case, a faulty motherboard or the power supply. It will be necessary to isolate each of these areas to determine which is causing the problems you are encountering. You could also try adjusting the bios to allow for wake on keyboard then instead of fully shutting down choose the sleep option (normally the default setting on the shut down menu). This allows a simple press of the keyboard to start the computer and will at least prove if the power supply is ok.

Hi djt298, thanks for your input.

Mesh are sending out Return labels so they can have a look at the problem - you're right when you suggest there could be a number of causes and this one has got me stumped.

Default boot problem 2nd time

immediately upon recieving my computer I had boot problems (sometimes fans would start but no power on light!)

was returned and had new hard disk installed (problems with it initialising) - have just recieved it back and its happening again!!!

wonder if it is a faulty batch of hard disks or bad motherboard now.

not happy - recieved computer 1 month ago but have actually only had it 3 days!!! - going back again - not happy - sounds like it is happening to other people too
