Default CPU Fan NoiseNero 9850 with X4 920 & NZXT Hust case

Hi ,

I have just received my Nero 9850HD which I ordered with a NZXT Hush case and Phenom II X4 920 AMD processor. I have activated the smart fans in the bios as per other postings on the Forum. This dropped the rpm from 4000 to 3000 but it is still very noisey. Can anyone recommend either a different fan or heatsink and fan for this processor type. I took the side off the case off and it is definitely the CPU fan creating the noise. The motherboard is an ASUS M2N68-VM.

I have that motherboard.
If you install speed fan, you can see that the CPU gets to about 55 degrees on normal usage.
I downloaded the latest bios for the motherboard from asus, which states it corrects a problem with CPU temp.
Once installed, my pc on normal usage is about 45 degrees and is much quieter.

also, when under power - hardware monitor with Q-fan enabled, you can change the start temp that the fan kicks in at.
i changed this to 48 degrees so the fan wont kick in being louder till it reaches that temp. which with the above mentioned bios update, it wont get to unless playing a game, like sims 3.

Hi,
I've fitted a Scythe Kabuto in my X4 955. It was running high 50's under normal usage before and very noisy. I now get between 30 and 40 under normal use. I've seen 50C only under extended full load (during video encoding) and no higher. That's without fan at 100% too. I used arctic silver compound, cleaner and primer. Very pleased with both the temperature and the noise level, it's very quiet in comparison.
I've read good things about the both the Zerotherm Zen and the Titan Fenrir which are cheaper than the Scythe Kabuto. Depends on budget considerations. There are cheaper options out there.
I'd google them and read some reviews about ease of fitting, cost etc.
It's a very worthwhile upgrade IMO.

I've fitted a Scythe Kabuto on mine as well, well worth the investment and the noise reduction is substantial.
