Hi busdriver,
You can try booting into safe mode and trying again
  1. If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
  2. Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  3. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  4. Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  5. When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Hope this helps

Question windows freezing after boot up

Hi Eejit
I've tried tapping the F8 key quite a few times with no response all i'm getting on the screen is press F10 for recovery and this will stay on the screen for as long as i tap F8 when i press F10 it take me to the Mesh System recovery wizard. That gives me the option to

1 Run the windows xp system recovery tool.
2 Recover damaged operating system or application files
3 Restore the computer to a factory state.

I've tried no.1 the computer boots up o.k. and takes me to the system restore window and thats as far as i can get because the curser dissapears and neither the mouse or the keyboard will work.I don't know what to expect if i try any of the other two options i would appreciate some advice about trying the other options. Thanks busdriver.

Option 2 will attempt to repair a corrupt operating system by replacing damaged or missing files, option 3 will completely wipe the drive and put it back as it was when you first received the computer. This means you will keep all the drivers and applications originally installed but lose any files or programs you have since added.
