Default Internet/Network Issues

Had a new Mesh Inspire for a week now replaceing an old Packard Bell using XP.
This new Vista 64b machine seems to drop either nework connection to ZyXel 660 router or router drops internet connection to Pipex ISP. All was fine with old pc. The network and sharing centre middle icon often stays on "identifying" for a long time sometimes powering down router fixes connection. Help

All network settings are set to Auto(Detect)

Hi dave,
First thing to try is getting rid of Bullguard firewall. In my experience software firewall's cause more trouble than they're worth.

With the Windows firewall, the hardware firewall on your router and a bit of common sense you'll be fine.

Unhappy

Tried just about every combination of firewalls off and on. This morning reset router modem and reinstalled settings via a spare laptop (Cpmpaq C500 Vista Basic) worked well and laptop stayed on net faultlessly but Mesh machine still would not always see network? then for no reason it started to work then dropped off again. Tried wireless connection via laptop once again OK so decided to try brand new ZyXel usb wireless dongle (free with router) which did not connect until machine was rebooted but this too then dropped off net again? Getting very disappointed with m/c now hope to have a good experience early next week with support guys. Its a pity that support login process does not seem to work (broken web link issues) as this is a real dissatisfier to a new customer with issues!!!

Hi daveandpolly,

Have you tried connecting via wire rather than wireless? It would purely to test the connection rather than as a permanent change.

Davey

Hi this might be down to an issue with Zyxel router an update for router can be obtained by calling their support on 08452267839. They were very easy to get hold of and very helpful...... If only all were like this!!
