Default Installing Win-xp

Lovely machine, great Mesh setup, but gosh Vista is not my cup of tea I cannot work with it.

Can I install WinXP and if I change my mind revert back to how the machine first arrived?

If after I reinstall Vista from Mesh DVD does it place in the MESH INSTALLED programs and stuff like Works and on the welcome screen or is this done with the REPAIR COMPUTER?

Does the REPAIR COMPUTER still remain and will it restore the Mesh Vista factory settings after Win XP

You know what I am trying to ask (smiles)

In my mind Vista is the beta version of Windows 7

First arrived? No, I don't think so.
I believe with Vista there is now an F10 function at boot-up that will retore to factory conditions. BUT. Anything that writes to the MBR will destroy that little bit of code. Installing XP will do this. You reinstall Vista using the recovery disk, but this F10 function will be lost forever. You would need to backup the C:/Drivers and C:/Apps. These hold, as you can guess by their names, the drivers and applications that Mesh supply.

Hi Privateer,
I say give Vista a few good weeks of use. I really find XP clunky and slow by comparison and cannot live without the Start Search any more.

If you install XP and overwrite Vista then you won't be able to use the factory restore (repair) setting to revert to Vista + Works etc. You may be able to configure XP to dual-boot with Vista, but I'm not an expert in that field.

Whatever you decide. You can re-install Vista using the recovery CD, but that will not include Works, system drivers etc.

when you install xp from a vista machine, you'll loose everything. ( the drive will be formatted)

first of all, back up the drivers folder, that should have the drivers and the programs mesh installed on your PC.

if you want to revert back to the how your PC first came to you, you'll have to use a program like acronis true image first, as this'll make an image of your hard drive, back this up to a usb hard drive or spare hard drive, but other than that, no, you'll not be able to revert back.

you'll have to manually install all the XP drivers (downloaded from the mother boards manufacturers site) and the programs from the drivers folder you backed up earlier.

you could install XP alongside vista, dual boot
