Is it possible to remove the restriction of 4 letter word length for searches? There are so many TLAs that a user might want to search for e.g. usb, SP3 etc.,

I tried submitting this using the site feedback facility, but the email bounced.

Hi nolly,

The minimum characters limit was raised from 3 to 4 quite a while back when it was found it was causing forum slow down whenever a search was performed.

You can still perform a google search which is apparently less of a slow down.

Click this link and where I have typed sli before the word site in the search box, change that to your 3 letter word/acronym and then hit search. Make sure you keep the word site and all the follows in place.

Default Searching the forum

The forum has a minimum length of search key of 4, which makes seaching for three-letter words and acronynms (TLAs) impossible. As we all know, the IT world is full of TLAs e.g. CPU, USB, HDD, RAM, ROM.....

So, for example, if I have a problem with a USB HUB and HDD, it's difficult to search for posts on the forum in this specific area.

How about reducing the minimum length of search key to 3 so we can search using TLAs?

Ha ha ha - just seen Nolly's post requesting the same. If I'd been able to search for 'TLA' then I would have seen that post Which proves the point that we need to be able to seach on 3 character words.

It may be an idea to include a sticky regarding exactly how to go about either:

1. Resetting a Mesh system to factory defaults using the Mesh partition.

2. Resetting a Mesh system from scratch using the supplied recovery disk.

And also include the main differences between these options, loss of supplied Mesh drivers etc.

Just an idea, it seems to be a very frequently asked question.

Good idea, the only comment I would add though is how often is a question asked that is already covered in either a sticky or the terms and conditions?

This is information we traditionally would prefer not freely available.

Previous experiences have always shown that with the info freely available people who ought to obtain advice first tend to go ahead and try it. It might seem like a regular IT joke but people really do ignore/skip the warnings, and they really do then feel we are in some way responsible for their mistake.

The information is free to share but I'd rather those not in the know feel they have to come to us before trying it. And I'm pretty confident that if they speak to anyone here a complete format of the hard drive isn't going to be the first thing advised.

I hadn't considered that. I can see now that it probably would cause more problems than it would solve. Thanks for the info anyway.

How about adding the repair centre's email address to the FAQ? Only the phone number is currently listed on the main website, and lets face it it's much more convenient for customers to email and more efficient as staff can fix more computers instead answering the phone constantly.

Default Suggestion

What i wuld like to see is a working techinical support email form on the Contact us / support section!

Also, a dedicated crew who come onto Mesh Computers Owners club and help fix computer issues. eg if somebody had a issue with their GPU a Member of Mesh could come online and support, i know Davy you do that but on your own you are great, with 5 of you yoiu would be even epicc'er

WOW FTW
