Thumbs down Power supply options & better advice.

I'd like to have the option to increase the power supply without having to pay £130 pounds for a different case.
I'd also like some consistency from MESH; when I asked Customer Service if the 550W power supply was sufficient to run 2 graphics cards, they told me I should opt for a bigger one, despite the fact that the Xtreme Q6 Ultimate comes with 2 X 512mb 8800GT and a 550W power supply!
Come on MESH, make your mind up! You don't take your own advice!

I would appreciate it if the Forum Administrator would comment on this, as well as other members.

It depends on what two cards you want to run.

The mesh 550watt psu will quite easily handle 2 X 8800gt.

On the other hand it will not run 2 X 8800GTX. It will handle one though. (8800GTX consumes much more power)

Two 8800GTs consume roughly 400watt in Sli and require about 36 amps on the 12v rail- so the Mesh 550watt should be fine.

Heres a review of the 8800gt in sli-

Default Thanks for the info

Thanks everyone for that, and the review is very interesting.
I was thinking of having 2 X 512mb 8800GT and that is what I told MESH. They then gave me advice which contradicted their own configuration for the Xtreme 6 Quad. They create confusion by appearing to not heed their own advice.

Hi dirk,

The specifications posted, whilst not being the bare minimum, are fine with the 550W PSU. Upgrade options are not restricted by the 550W but will be limited.

If there is any indication that you intend to upgrade your system, or you discuss anything of that nature then you will often be recommended to upgrade the PSU.

Davey

I'm not sure I'd bother with SLI. In my opinion, you're better off sticking with one high-end card. Just my 2 cents.

As you know the 8800 GT uses a lot less power than it's predocessors (almost half of the old GTS) - the 8800 GT uses only 105W, even under full load! So in SLI you'll be fine with a 550 PSU.
